+ Changing Your Default Address

Maybe you've moved, and need to set up a few yards in your new town. A little feature that will save you time is the Default Address .

When you add a new yard, we look at the address that you provided when you signed up. This gives us a starting point for the values of the yard (though you can, of course, change all of these values as you set up a new yard). To change your default address, click on Account in the top right. Now click on Change my default address .

Depending on your setup, this will open a new tab, a popup overlay, or a little box at the bottom of the screen. In every case, you'll see a sequence of text inputs. Plug in your data and click Save and you're all done!

+ Using Hive Tracks

+ An Overview

Hive Tracks helps organize your beekeeping into a clean tree structure. Everything starts at the yard level. Within a yard you can have hives. Hives can then be inspected.

Once you've entered some yards and hives, you can enter todo items and harvests. These can be assigned to individual hives or entire yards, depending on what you're most comfortable with.

+ Creating a Yard

Creating a yard is the first step to organizing your operation.

+ Creating a Hive

There are numerous ways to create a hive, but all of them require that you have a yard created beforehand. If you haven't done so, please create one .

When creating a hive, it's important to pay attention to the dropdown menus in the editor. In particular, the very first one marked "Yard." If you clicked "Create New Hive" from the dashboard,  this will default to your first yard. If you clicked "Create New Hive" from the yards or hives pages, it'll default to the yard that you were looking at.

Once you've plugged in your hives' information, click on the hive image on the right to open the list of components. You can add and change what is present on your hive from here. You can even reorder components by clicking and dragging them, or clicking the arrows to send them to the top or bottom. Clicking the X will remove a component.

+ Creating an Inspection

Inspections are the core of tracking your hives. There are a number of datapoints that you can fill out, but nothing is required.

There are a number of ways to get to the inspection editor.

  • If you're looking at your hives list, you can click " New Inspection " in the recent inspection column.
  • If you're editing a hive, you can click "Save & Inspect."
  • If you're looking at your past inspections list, you can click the " New Inspection " button at the top, or click the " Add Inspection to " button beside each hive section.
  • If you're a pro user, you can also create inspections from the calendar!

+ Using My Map

The My Map feature does a little more than just show where your yards are: you can actually use it to correct GPS data.

Since converting from street addresses to GPS coordinates is an imperfect system, a lot of users have found it useful to tweak the positions of their yards. This data is then used by the hives inside that yard, so the more accurate it is, the better!

To adjust a yard, all you have to do is click and drag the little hive icon. When you let it go we'll save the new position in the background. It's that easy!

+ Using the Global Map

The Global Map shows off all the yards that users have opted to share with the public. Neat!

To get your yard(s) to show up on the Global Map, navigate to the Yards page. Under the actions column beside each of your yards, you'll see Share or Unshare with a lock icon beside it. Click Share to share your yards with the world! If you decide you don't want to share a particular yard any more, just click Unshare .

+ Printing

We've made a number of PDFs that you can download and/of print as you choose. Since Hive Tracks is a web application, we can't access your printer directly, so if you want a physical report or something, you'll need to click the print icon most likely located in the top left.

If you don't see a print icon, your best bet is to navigate to File > Print .

+ How to switch to Metric and Celsius

Switching to the metric system is easy! First, click on Account at the top of the screen. Then click "Change my preferences" and look for Weather Units.

(While you're here, you might want to also change your preferred date format. We default to month/day/year, but day/month/year is available.)

+ Bug Reports

Nobody likes finding bugs, not even our bees! But if you do come across a software issue, you can report it to our dev team by clicking the "Support/Questions" tab at the bottom of the screen. A good user experience is extremely important to us, which is why we make this button available to our users on all pages.

Once you've pulled up this tab, tell us about what you noticed. The more detail you can provide the better!
